Careful Touch Massage
The Different Massage Treatments
All massage is therapeutic and they each have different goal and methods on how to address your physical complaints (verbally or non-verbally). Here you're going to learn some of what those ways are so you can decide which one you want to try!
Deep Tissue
Deep Tissue massage is often seen as "deep pressure" massage. The reality is that a deep tissue massage focuses on the deep muscles compared to the superficial muscles and depending on the person, deep pressure may not even be necessary. Like most therapeutic massages it should "hurt so good". If it just plain hurts, then find a new therapist.
With deep tissue come other techniques like Trigger Point Therapy and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation. Which is just a fancy word for resistant stretching.

Myofascial Release or MFR
Myofascial Release is a massage technique that focuses less on the muscle tissue and more on the fascial tissue in between the skin and the muscle. (If you want to learn more about fascia click the link below). Techniques like skin rolling and different kinds of stretching and positioning are used with this massage treatment. The goal can be to help release emotional traumas, blockages of fluids or energy. It depends on your goals and your treatment plan with your therapist!
Energy Work
Massage modalities like Reiki, Reflexology, Shiatsu, Acupuncture, Thai, and many more manipulate the body and its tissues with the focus being on the energy that is contained in and exerted by your body. Using pressure points, tools (like needles), stretching, or simply the therapist's intentions, to manipulate the energy within your body and heal areas that could be blocked or irritated from physical and/or emotional trauma.
